From this trip, I have learnt that in order to deliver the best performance to the audience, team spirit, understanding and cooperation is needed. Team spirit, is also needed in other aspects, so that when we are travelling together, no one would get injured or lose their way. We must also care for others, and not make them feel left out of the team as we are only completed when everyone are together. If one person loses their way, with no one by their side, this would not only affect the whole trip but also the person’s family. In addition, to maintain a good relationship with one another is extremely important therefore people should bond with others and not just wander around alone. We should also try to understand our friends that are around us and try to be more considerate to each other.

Basically, the objective of the trip is for us to learn from other people in another country as the things there might be different from those of Singapore’s and other things which might be useful for the coming Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) of 2011. The nervousness we experienced and the disappointment we felt when our performance was not the best, was something which we can learn a lot from, for example, we need more practice and hard work, if we were confident, we would not be nervous at all. When one is on stage, that person also needs to start to act and smile for the audience and not bring their expressionless face on to the stage. I can always recap on how I performed during the exchange programs, whether it is good or bad. If it is good, I can look for areas of improvement and continue to maintain that standard. If it is not up to expectations, I can reflect on what went wrong and try to prevent the same mistakes and make more improvements. At the Chinese Culture University Department of Chinese Music, I also realized that the Guzheng can be combined with other instruments like the cello. It can also be played in the form of Jazz.

During the trip, I have seen many new things, for example there was a type of Guzheng where both sides could be used to play and the left side of it seems similar to the piano. After seeing their performance, I noticed that there was still a long way for us to go.

Things I have done include performing for the people and also the making of the Kong Ming Lantern. After making the lantern, our wishes were written on it, and of course I wish to improve my studies. On the lantern, there was also something that every Guzheng member desired to achieve, and that was, to achieve Gold with Honours for the SYF of 2011. By putting in more effort and practicing more, I believe that this would not be just a mere dream.
In the future, I hope that the relationship between the Guzheng members would improve and no one would be left out of the team. With consideration and understanding, this would be achieved.
